R.E.M., Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage, 1982 – 2011

After R.E.M. ignited the blogosphere on September 21st with the news that they had decided to “call it a day as a band” via a statement on their website, the beloved band have announced that they will release their final album, R.E.M., Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage, 1982 – 2011, on Warner Bros. Records on November 15th, 2011.

Mike Mills On New R.E.M. Disc With Patti Smith, Eddie Vedder

When R.E.M. began recording Collapse Into Now last year they decided to throw out the guidelines they imposed on their last album, 2008′s Accelerate. “On the last one we tried to make everything focused, short, fast and sharp,” Mike Mills tells Rolling Stone. “We took most of the rules off this time, picking the best songs regardless of whether they were fast, slow or mid-tempo.”

R.E.M. RE-TEAMS WITH ACCELERATE PRODUCER, JACKNIFE LEE, FOR NEW STUDIO ALBUM

Burbank, CAR.E.M. singer Michael Stipe, guitarist Peter Buck, and bassist Mike Mills have just finished recording their 15th studio album, which will be released in Spring 2011 by Warner Bros. Records. The band has re-teamed with Grammy Award-winning producer Jacknife Lee, who produced R.E.M.’s acclaimed previous album Accelerate. He is also noted for his work on albums by U2, Snow Patrol, The Hives, and indie stalwarts Kasabian, The Editors, Aqualung, and Bloc Party.

R.E.M. Finish New Album in Berlin; Set for 2011 Release

R.E.M. have completed recording their 15th studio album with producer Jacknife Lee at Berlin, Germany’s Hansa Studios and will mix the disc in the fall. The band have penciled in a spring 2011 release date for the follow-up to 2008′s Accelerate, and while Michael Stipe and Co. haven’t offered up much in terms of details about their new LP, “postcards” from the studio posted on their official website have given fans the impression that recording in Berlin has influenced the band’s latest work.
